T&T businesses now required to declare who are their natural owners
Aegis continues momentum of Corporate Governance Conference with Biz Hour sessions on Understanding Beneficial Ownership on 12 March
Businesses are now required to show who are the natural owners of their companies in Trinidad and Tobago. Following the successful Corporate Governance conference last year October, Aegis kicks off 2020 with their first Aegis Biz Hour seminars on 12 March to share information on The Companies Amendment Act 2019 (which was ascended 4th April 2019) regarding reporting on the beneficial ownership of your company.
According to the Act, it is now mandatory to declare your beneficial owners in your company. Beneficial owners could be those who are registered as a shareholder, but not the beneficial holder. It also refers to those companies who are shareholders of the business. Another example is if a beneficial owner dies, the shares are in their estate – the government now requires businesses to declare who are the beneficial owners. These are aligned to the government’s strategic efforts to build the legal infrastructure in Trinidad and Tobago.
This Act applies to locally incorporated limited liability companies only (not registered as external company). Directors, company secretaries and shareholders would benefit from this session to better understand the deadlines, penalties and fines applicable to beneficial ownership.
In an increasingly interconnected world, Aegis maintains international recognition and a sound business presence by the way of strategic alliances and a network of fellow professional firms that can significantly strengthen your business and ensure its sustainability.
Aegis Biz Hours are specifically organised in short seminars in a closed network environment to encourage SME’s and business leaders to learn about the functions of their business and latest developments. This event would be Aegis’ 10th Biz Hour.
